Function with Big Responsibility
The highest level of functionality and absolute precision are required in the operating room and nursing ward. Day or night, gas pressure springs and dampers from Stabilus make the life of patients and nursing staff easier. Whether it is fast and controlled height adjustment, easy and precise positioning, or integrated weight compensation – wherever reliability is a must, Stabilus gas springs will lift, lower, position, or adjust. They provide comfort and mobility, support the operator, and clearly reduce risks. Maintenance-free and silent, they have been an essential structural component in medical technology for decades.

Surgery is precision work that requires a high level of sensitivity.
That is why it is critical that the operating table can be adjusted quickly and easily, so that the patient will always be in perfect reach of the surgeon.
In gurneys, it is important that they can be individually adapted to the physical state of the sick or injured person to eliminate additional pain and pressure. In transport stretchers, variable height adjustment is required for carefully moving the patient, for example, from a higher surgery stretcher to a lower hospital bed.
Function
In addition to convenient height adjustment, Stabilus gas springs allow variable, easy adjustment of the head, back, and foot sections of operating tables and transport stretchers. Load differences, as they might occur due to differences in human body weight, can be absorbed effortlessly and safely with our gas springs.

Physicians demand convenience while working.
Stabilus gas springs facilitate ergonomic sitting by quickly bringing chairs and stools to the correct, individual height – either manually or, even more comfortably, by pedal actuation. The hands will remain free and more importantly, stay sterile.
Function
With our locking, self-supporting gas pressure springs, the physician’s stool can be variably adjusted up or down within seconds. Once it is in the desired position, it will bounce pleasantly, saving the spine from hard impact. Of course, height adjustment can be operated both manually and by foot release.
Your Advantage
- Fast adjustment to preferred height by the user
- Pedal and/or hand actuation
Our Solutions at a Glance
- BLOC-O-LIFT – gas spring for variable height adjustment
- STAB-O-MAT – gas spring for variable seat height adjustment in chairs

Variable height adjustability of the treatment table is one of the most important prerequisites for ergonomic and relaxed working of medical staff.
Precisely adjustable back, seat, head, and foot sections can optimally position the patient, contributing to treatment success.
Function
Gas pressure springs from Stabilus will safely and effortlessly bring the patient bed into the treatment position. The locking forces of our gas springs are sufficiently high; no additional locking mechanisms are necessary. In addition, the gas springs can be equipped with overload protection (override function). If the bed is stressed beyond a preset load, the overload valve will open and the corresponding panel will gently yield.
Your Advantage
- Fast and individual height adjustment
- Variable and effortless adjustment of back, seat, head, and leg panels
- No EMFs, no fire hazard
- Mechanical actuation system, for no leaks

Pedal-operated metal trash cans are used wherever absolute hygiene is vital – as in the medical sector.
Unfortunately, closing them is associated with a loud noise, because the lid will drop freely when the pedal is released.
Function
Gas springs and small dampers from Stabilus will eliminate these uncontrolled falls and ensure soft and gentle closing. During opening, the lid will glide open smoothly without hitting furniture or walls.
Your Advantage
- Safe and silent closing of lids and flaps
Our Solutions at a Glance
- LIFT-O-MAT – gas spring for easy, controlled opening
- STAB-O-SHOC – damper for dampened, silent closing

Older or weaker patients often have difficulties rising from a wheelchair by themselves. Some injuries require elevating the legs, which must also be ensured in the wheelchair. An adjustable backrest further promotes comfortable sitting.
Function
In wheelchairs, Stabilus gas springs provide easy height and tilt adjustment of backrest and seat. Less strength will be required for rising, and the patient will be able to get from the bed into the wheelchair more easily. In the mobile foot sections, our gas pressure springs allow elevation of one or both legs. Our dampers will gently dampen the wheels while the chair is in motion.
Your Advantage
- Height and tilt adjustment of backrest and foot sections
- Seat height adjustment (facilitates getting directly into and out of bed!)
